Teacher Training

Teachers really matter!

Whether in Koru, Kenya or in the USA, success in the classroom depends on a teachers’ ability to engage pupils and to inspire the pursuit of knowledge.  OCI provides opportunities for local teachers and US based teachers to collaborate, to learn and to grow.  Our goal is to create a replicable teacher training model by developing expert teachers who will collaborate with colleagues and share best practices.

Experienced US teachers and volunteers have incredible opportunities to make a difference in Koru classrooms. Local teachers, administrators and parents welcome our team with open arms.  US teachers and volunteers have run science projects, art programs, sports days, literature circles, geography games, math lessons and journaling projects! Experienced teachers have trained, taught and observed local teachers and provided forums for feedback and active learning.   Local students and teachers are engaged and eager to work with our team, while US teachers and volunteers experience the challenges of teaching classes of sixty or seventy students with few resources.  It is a learning experience for all.
